Hyundai Philippines
A brainchild of businessman Chung Ju-Yung, Hyundai’s success started out not too far from where it specializes now. Founded in 1946 as an engineering and construction firm, Hyundai later incorporated the manufacturing of cars in December 29, 1967, igniting a boost in Korea’s stint in the global automotive world, alongside Kia Motors.
Shortly after, Hyundai Motor joined forces with the already prominent Ford Motor Company to create the legendary Cortina. Soon, Ju-Yung decided to level up Hyundai Motors as an independent company, and in the process hired a team of British automotive engineers in further improving its technologies, leading to the creation of the equally notable Hyundai Pony in the '70s.
Hyundai Motor Company soon saw globalization as its next mission, and true enough, it began flourishing as the '70s, '80s, and '90s came. And speaking of the '90s, Hyundai Motor Company went on an all-time-high at that time to propel itself up to where it is now today as a serious automotive firm of the next generation.
The ‘90s also saw Hyundai’s eventual popularity here in the Philippines. At first, there was actually no official firm which distributes Hyundai cars here, and that many dealerships and individuals only relied on importing them independently.
In the early 2000s, Hyundai Motor Company officially landed here in the Philippines and since then have made waves in the local motoring scene. Inked by Hyundai Motor Company Korea in August 2001 as Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), it entered the Philippine automotive market that was dominated mostly by the Japanese brands. With its Hyundai Starex, Hyundai Accent, and Hyundai Tucson, topping charts here and there, HARI soon became one of the largest automotive manufacturer in the country. Other noteworthy Hyundai nameplates under HARI are the i10, EON, Grand i10, Sonata, Azera, Genesis Coupe, Santa Fe, H100, and the Grand Starex.
