Chevrolet Philippines
Chevrolet was founded in 1911 by ousted General Motors President William C. Durant and Swiss-born race car driver Louis Chevrolet. Together, they used their expertise in automobiles, plus Louis’ racing prowess, to build the trusted automotive nameplate we know today.
Their first model, the Chevrolet Series C Classic Six was the star of the show back then, and soon, a number of Chevrolet-made automobiles followed it to success. Models like the H Series and the L Series made waves for around seven years.
But William and Louis had different philosophy, and with this came their eventual disbandment in 1918. Louis sold his share of the brand to Durant, and having established enough reps and funds, Durant had the capabilities to repurchase a considerable percentage of GM’s brand, and soon reassumed himself as GM’s President. In 1919, the Chevrolet brand merged with GM as a separate automaker, retaining the Chevrolet trademark in the process.
Currently, Chevrolet excels in the US motoring industry, as well gaining top places in motorsports. Some of their popular models are the Suburban, Corvette, Volt, and most recently the Camaro, which was featured in the Michael Bay version of the Transformers movies, further catapulting the American automotive giant in to global stardom.
In the Philippines, the bow tie brand is imported and distributed exclusively by The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI) since 2009. TCCCI is pulling all the stops to elevate the brand’s success in the local motoring industry, bringing in models such as the Spark, Sail, Cruze, Spin, Orlando, Malibu, Captiva, Trailblazer, Colorado, and of course, the Camaro.
Adapting traditions from the US, Chevy PH continues to make its presence felt by hosting the Chevrolet Motorama annually. The event is a celebration of anything and everything Chevy across various malls nationwide.
