Nissan Philippines
Nissan Motors is currently the 6th largest automobile manufacturer which started its roots in Yokohama, Japan in 1933 but was first known as Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works in 1911. During its time, it produced the DAT light duty trucks and Datsun passenger cars from 1914 to 1933.
By 1934, the company was officially named as the Nissan Motor Company Ltd. On the same year, it exported 44 Datsuns for Asia, Central and South America and finished the construction of Japan’s first mass production plant in Yokohama. Before the war, it purchased design plans for passenger cars and trucks but shifted to producing military trucks and airplanes during the war.
It wasn’t until the 1950s when Nissan made serious efforts for globalization by meeting the unmet needs of the Australian and North American market. In the late 1950s, it entered the Australian Mobilgas Trial rally which bagged first place. Since then, Nissan has also produced well-acclaimed vehicles that people love until today including the Fairlady roadsters, Skyline coupes, Sunny (known as the Sentra locally) compact car, and the Patrol four-wheel offroader.
Presently, Nissan has been part of the Renault–Nissan Alliance, a partnership between Nissan and French automaker Renault to breath a new life into the company’s goal in providing quality cars that are both fun and practical to own. It is renowned to be one of the best comeback in the business’ world perspective. More than 80 years have passed since its founding, Nissan is still going strong by meeting the dynamic changes of the demands of the consumer. It has debuted the all-electric Leaf and the relaunched the Datsun brand to fill-in the small car market.
Here in the Philippines, Nissan used to be a two-faced company: Universal Motors Corporation (UMC) for the commercial vehicles and Nissan Motors Philippines Inc. (NMPI) for the passenger cars and SUVs. Today, the two companies are consolidated under one roof through Nissan Philippines Inc. (NPI), which began its operations in March 2014. It is currently offering models such as the Almera, Sylphy, Altima, X-Trail, Urvan, Patrol Royale, and the new NP300 Navara.
